Dr. Rajan Mahtani To Support Death Penalty Abolishment

Founder and present Chairman of the Prison Fellowship Zambia, Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani has extended his full support towards the recent decision made by the Zambian President. On the event of the Africa Day, President of Zambia Hakainde Hichilema announced that he is considering complete abolishment of the death penalty within the nation. This statement from the Zambian President has received mixed reactions. While there were some opposing reactions, majority of the parties and people have supported this intention from the Zambian President.

Dr. Rajan Mahtani has also supported this intention. Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani founded the Prison Fellowship Zambia more than 37 years ago. This organization has dedicated itself towards bringing gospel of the Jesus Christ towards the prisoners, ex-prisoners as well as their families in Zambia. Other objectives of Prison Fellowship include providing fair criminal justice to the prisoners and ensuring they are not devoid of fundamental human rights and human dignity. Right to live is a fundamental human right and even Prison Fellowship has had death penalty abolishment as an agenda for quite some time. As such, the announcement made by the President of Zambia was a welcome move. Dr. Rajan Mahtani has further stated that Prison Fellowship will provide full support towards this decision. Prison Fellowship will rally behind this decision and has already pledged full support towards abolishment of death penalty and is also looking forward towards tangible legal reports. Prison Fellowship understands that transforming this announcement into a reality will require significant legal overhaul and bureaucratic nightmare. However, Dr. Mahtani owner Prison Fellowship will provide all forms of legal and regulatory support to ensure that this decision comes true.
