Portland Cement Zambia Owner Announced, Dr. Rajan Mahtani Given Majority Shareholding

It is a known fact that ethical and honest businessmen are often the ones falling prey of corruption, challenges and ethical plans. While most of these ethical and honest businessmen often fall into ethical ways of completing their goals, only few of them survive through the last. Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani is one of them. Dr. Rajan Mahtani is a noted businessman, philanthropist and charity worker in Zambia. For this past three decades, Dr. Rajan Mahtani successfully built an empire based on ethics and honour. Some of his most successful ventures included Mahtani Group of Companies, Finsbury Investments and Finance Bank Zambia. He is also the rightful owner of Portland Cement Zambia for which he fought for more than a decade by staying truthful and transparent. However, the Lusaka High Court where the case was initially registered failed to provide any judgement. The court took more than a decade and despite sharing numerous evidences and testimonials, Dr. Rajan Mahtani was not given justice. The judge at the Lusaka High Court was justice Nkonde and he announced that Ventriglias were only shareholders of the Zambezi Portland Cement.

After this unjustified judgement, Dr. Rajan Mahtani took the case to the Court of Appeal. The judge at the Court of Appeal was justice Mwinde who gave the final judgement on 31st January 2019. This judgement was given after looking into all evidences and testimonials. According to this judgement, Dr. Rajan Mahtani owned Finsbury Investments holds 58 percent shares at the factory and are the majority shareholders of the factory. On the other hand, Ventriglias owned just 42 percent shares at the factory are the minority shareholders without any legal ownership over the factory. This judgement from the Court of Appeal aligned with the original shareholders agreement established in the year 2007. This further confirms that Dr. Mahtani is the legal owner of the factory.
